Our climate action activators

Tāmaki Makaurau is uniquely lucky to have climate action activators on the ground across the region — backing communities to lead their own journeys and giving them the spark and support to bring big ideas to life. Our “climate action activators” help bring climate action to life in communities across Tāmaki Makaurau. They know their local areas well, understand the challenges and opportunities each community faces, and are deeply connected to the people they work with.

Support for Your Local Climate Journey

Activators offer support across three key areas

Delivering Local Board plans

They support the delivery of Local Board Climate Action Plans, which generally set out practical actions Local Boards plan to take over the next three years (and beyond) to support the transition to a zero carbon and climate resilient future.

Catalysing local action

Climate action activators help catalyse local climate action based on local opportunities and community energy. They sometimes work with neighbourhood groups, but also collaborate much more broadly, including with community organisations and a variety of agencies.

Accessing funding

Activators can help groups access funding through the Te Ara Urutau – Climate and Emergency Ready Fund, which is available to all groups (including EcoNeighbourhood groups).
