Celebrate World Wetlands Day with a day of discovery and family-friendly activities in the restored wetland habitat of Te Henga.

Explore the boardwalks, learn about local conservation efforts, and discover how community volunteers have helped restore and protect the area since 2016. Keep an eye out for native birdlife including pāteke (brown teal), pūweto (spotless crake) and the elusive matuku-hūrepo (Australasian bittern).

Activities and stalls

Take part in guided nature walks led by experts, enjoy kids' games and crafts, and browse an all-day market featuring local art, gifts and environmental information stalls. Community groups and stallholders include Auckland Zoo, Birds New Zealand, Forest & Bird Waitākere, Arataki Visitor Centre, The Entomological Society, Mountains to Sea, Kauri Rescue, Auckland Council Biodiversity, and Pest Free Waitākere Ranges Alliance.

Food and refreshments

Fresh coffee, home baking and a barbecue with both vegan and non-vegan options will be available throughout the day.
