The Adaptation Game - Discovery Session
Ellen Melville Centre
Come and experience The Adaptation Game in the heart of the city centre.
The Adaptation Game (TAG) is an immersive, story-driven board game that brings climate impacts to life at a local scale.
Using real maps, environmental shocks and community-specific challenges, TAG helps players explore risks, test ideas, and shape collective pathways toward a more resilient future.
This session offers a hands-on discovery of the Kaipātiki version — the pilot that revealed how powerful and engaging the game can be for sparking local conversations and building climate confidence.
What participants experienced:
- Significantly increased confidence in responding to extreme weather
- More than double the understanding of local climate risks
- Motivation to take action rising from 16% to 61%
Because the pilot was so successful, work is now underway to develop more localised versions of the game, so communities across Auckland can explore the risks and responses that matter most to them. A regional version will also be available to borrow later this year.
At this discovery workshop, you can:
- Explore the Kaipātiki game and see how TAG works in practice
- Experience how stories, decisions and collaboration shape outcomes
- Discover how TAG can support community resilience and climate literacy
- Connect with others who care about strengthening their neighbourhoods
