Planting to protect Matakana River banks

Ward Road farm

Planting to protect Matakana River banks image

Make a difference on a stunning stretch of the Matakana River.

The sheep are no longer able to access the awa and now, Friends of Awa Matakanakana need your help to get a few thousand plants into the ground. This planting site directly impacts the catchment, located 3km upstream from Matakana Village.

Give us a hand. Please bring:

  • the kids - it's a family-friendly morning
  • sturdy clean closed-in shoes, boots or gumboots
  • clean garden gloves
  • clean spades (there will be some available)
  • water
  • hat
  • appropriate clothing for the weather (we will be planting no matter what the weather does).

There will be a sausage sizzle when the mahi is completed, with vegan options available. Yummo!

Registration will ensure we have enough kai and helps us keep you up-to-date on event details.
