GET TO KNOW YOUR NEIGHBOURS

Just like in emergency planning, getting to know your neighbours and wider community is one of the best ways to prepare for climate change.

When you know and trust the people around you, it’s easier to plan, share resources, and look out for one another when things get tough.

Connected communities are also better placed to take action together – from coordinating local flood responses or planting shade trees, to creating renewable energy systems.

In the long term, organised neighbourhoods have more say in the decisions that shape their future – from how large flood protection projects are designed, to where and how managed retreat might take place. Communities that already know and care for each other have stronger voices, greater influence, and the power to shape a fair, resilient future for everyone.
