Competition terms and conditions

From time to time, Auckland Climate Action, delivered by Auckland Council, runs competitions and promotions to support climate engagement activities across Tāmaki Makaurau.

Each competition will include specific terms (“Special Terms”) outlining eligibility, entry dates, prizes and selection methods. These will be published alongside the competition. The following General Terms apply to all Auckland Climate Action competitions unless otherwise stated.

1. Competition

These General Terms apply to all competitions conducted by Auckland Council through Auckland Climate Action. By entering a competition, entrants confirm they have read, understood and agree to both the General Terms and the applicable Special Terms.

2. Entries and prize draw

1. Entrants must complete and submit the official entry form before the advertised closing date. Late entries will not be accepted.
2. Prizes are not transferable, exchangeable or redeemable for cash unless otherwise stated.
3. Winners will be selected or drawn as described in the Special Terms and contacted using the details provided at entry.
4. If a winner cannot be contacted, does not respond within the stated timeframe, or declines the prize, Auckland Council reserves the right to redraw or select another winner.
5. If a prize becomes unavailable for any reason, Auckland Council may substitute it with a prize of equal or greater value.
6. By accepting a prize, winners agree to reasonable promotional use of their first name, image and submitted content by Auckland Council for communications purposes, unless they request otherwise.

3. Eligibility and exclusions

1. Unless otherwise stated in the Special Terms, entrants must:
   • be residents of the Auckland region at the time of entry; and
   • meet any age requirements specified.
2. The following persons are not eligible to enter unless explicitly permitted:
   • Auckland Council employees involved in administering the competition; and
   • contractors or agencies directly connected with the competition delivery.
3. Auckland Council reserves the right to disqualify any entrant who:
   • breaches these terms;
   • gains unfair advantage; or
   • provides false or misleading information.

4. Privacy

1. Personal information collected through competition entries will be used only for administering the competition and contacting winners, unless consent is given for additional communications.
2. Entrants agree that, if they win, Auckland Council may use their name, photograph or entry content for publicity purposes related to the competition.
3. Personal information will be collected, stored and managed in accordance with the Privacy Act 2020 and Auckland Council’s privacy policy.
4. Entrants may request access to or correction of their personal information at any time.

5. General conditions

1. Auckland Council reserves the right to amend, suspend or cancel a competition at any time where necessary.
2. The decision of Auckland Council regarding any aspect of the competition is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
3. Auckland Council is not responsible for:
   • technical issues affecting entry submission;
   • incorrect contact details provided by entrants;
   • lost, late or incomplete entries;
   • any costs incurred by winners in accepting or using a prize; or
   • any loss, damage or injury arising from acceptance or use of a prize, except where liability cannot be excluded by law.

6. Acceptance of terms

Participation in the competition constitutes acceptance of these General Terms and the applicable Special Terms.
